Ramada clerk robbed at gunpoint; thieves escape with $789

UNION-TRIBUNE

January 15, 2006

CARLSBAD – Three men, one wielding a sawed-off shotgun, robbed a Ramada Inn early yesterday, taking $789 from a cash register after confronting the front-desk clerk, police said.

The men entered the motel on Macadamia Drive near Avenida Encinas at 12:25 a.m. wearing gloves, masks and hooded sweat shirts, police said. They told the clerk to open the cash register, then led him to an office, pulled out the telephone wires and ordered him to lie on the floor until they left, according to police.

The three left the motel driving a dark-colored compact car and headed south an Avenida Encinas, after which the clerk called police, authorities said.
