Nintendo stay-fit game worries health experts

A Nintendo Wii Fit game, which is an exercise game consisting of activities using the Wii Balance Board, has raised anger among experts for telling healthy kids that they are fat.

Experts warn that the game, which assesses players' fitness levels based on their body mass index, labels them underweight, ideal weight, overweight or obese.

They say the game could cause eating disorders and self-esteem issues.

The game includes a weight- and motion-sensitive balance board, which players can use for yoga, muscle workouts, aerobic exercises and balance games.

Adolescent weight management services have said the BMI index is not even ideal for measuring adult fitness, let alone that of children.

Nintendo has admitted the BMI calculations were based on adult measurements and might not be accurate for children.
