Fake New Zealand bank owner faces court in US
    Irish Sun
    Monday 28th December, 2009

A New Zealand man in the US who posed as an international banker has been exposed in a multi-million dollar fraud.

Shaun Gregory Morgan was found to be a conman by a court in Utah, which found him guilty of running a fake bank over the internet.

Morgan offered large loans to needy businesses on condition they first sent him money as security.

It was also found Morgan used counterfeit cheques to buy about 40 houses and other rental properties.

The prosecution also put forward evidence that Morgan had transferred the title on the properties before the cheques bounced while still going on to collect rent.

Morgan struck a deal with the Utah prosecutors to have a string of charges dropped in exchange for pleading guilty to one count of bank fraud.
